Here’s how the concerts looked like: pics and slideshow below

We are ready to present you the final line-up for the Kinofest Official Party, this Thursday, 22 October, with two sensational bands: Les Elephants Bizzares and Scout Astray. Read more about the bands (in case you don’t know their entire bios already), and come see them on the first day of Kinofest, at The Light Bar (in The Light Cinema, Soseaua Progresului, 151-171), starting at 10 o’clock in the evening.

The band was formed in 2007 and the founder members are Cătălin Rădoi (Proka) – electric guitar & vocals, Mihai Marin – bass & vocals, Åžtefan Matei – vocals and Claudiu Åžtirbei – drums. On the spring of 2008, Nae (Cazacu Nicolae) joined the band, playing synths.

Besides the guys manouevring the musical instruments, the band has another member (Dragoş Dulea) who takes care of the visual part of  the concerts.

None of the band members is a professional musician. For them, music is a hobby, still. Trying to define the band’s musical genre, the only term which got close enough to the truth was “disco-punk“. The press intepreted the style of Les Elephants Bizzares as: indie-rock, indie-pop, alternative, funk-rock …

Ever since their debut in the autumn of 2008, in their current fomula,  the number of live acts has considerably grown, especially in the Bucharest clubs – and 2009 seems to be the year of the elephant. They’ve opened We Have Band (UK), The Haunts (UK), A-LIX (Arg/Fr), Asleep In The Park (Aus) and have participated in B’ESTFEST, the biggest festival of Romania, opening for Motorhead and Moby.

Two of their songs ranked high in the charts of well-known radio stations. Hello says the devil became number 1 on the Romanian Chart of City FM, and Have No Fear became number 2 on the International Chart of Radio Guerrilla, with a heavy-rotation of 9 weeks.

The elephant herd invaded the www space, therefore you can find live acts of the pachyderms on YouTube and you can download their tunes on their official site: If you want to stay updated with the things going on with the bizzares elephants, you can join the evergrowing flock on myspace: and facebook:

Scout Astray

Scout Astray is the new project of musician and producer Mihai Antonescu, following 25 years of silence. With just a few excepions, Scout Astray brings on stage songs written between 1981 and 1983, for the original band of five, including keyboards, currently played much more abbreviated.  The bad vocals, wrapped in image, attitude, guts and great lyrics, belong to Mihai Antonescu. Playing drums, we find sophisticated instrumentalist and character Eduard ‘Dedi’ Grigoroiu and Alexandru ‘Gigi’ Catrina, probably the best Romanian guitarist of the moment – at playing chords on stage and, back in the studio, at everything. Technically impecable, mastered at Mastervargas in New York, the Scout Astray recordings try to preserve a raw and amateur flavour, the fundamental concept being ‘what’ and not ‘how’, with the idea in mind that the world is full of bands playing nothings perfectly. The live appearances, extremely rare, make an arrogant show of the vocal’s efforts to hide his short breath (natural to a three-decade-practice smoker), the precise enthusiasm of the drummer and the excellent Gretsch guitar of Catrina, the man who puts ideas in coherent shapes. Their music is entirely Antonescu/Catrina with lyrics by Antonescu, who immodestly steals expressions of the general heritage. Scout Astray debuted on disc as part of the ‘The Next Dog Desert Island Selection’ compilation (Roadrunner Music) and are currently working for their first album, ‘Some Jolly Jumper’s Misunderstandings’, produced at the independent label  Full Frontal., permanently under construction, with pictures and a blood-and-thunder layout
